Which NBA teams are on the wheel?
All 30 teams in the 2026–27 NBA season: 29 based in the United States and one, the Toronto Raptors, in Canada. They are listed alphabetically by their official names, which is why the Clippers appear as the “LA Clippers” while their neighbours are the “Los Angeles Lakers”. The league has voted to explore expansion teams in Seattle and Las Vegas, targeted for the 2028–29 season, so they are not on the wheel yet.
Random-team challenges for basketball video games
Spinning for a franchise is a popular way to keep a basketball video game fresh. A few formats players enjoy:
- Franchise roulette. Spin once and commit to rebuilding that team in franchise or career mode, however bad the roster looks.
- Couch head-to-head. Two players each spin for their team before a match, so nobody always picks the strongest side. A coin flip decides who is home.
- Thirty-team tour. Turn on Remove the winner after each spin and play one game as every team in the league, in the order the wheel gives you.
A bragging-rights bracket with friends
Before the season or the playoffs, deal teams out to a group. Turn on remove-the-winner and have each friend spin in turn until the wheel is empty; with five friends, everyone ends up with six teams. At the end of the season, add up the wins for your teams and the leader chooses the next takeaway. If your group is uneven, remove a few weaker or stronger teams first so everyone gets the same number.
Whose turn it is to spin can be random too: the who goes first wheel sorts it out, and the random team generator is useful if you want to split a big group into pairs first.
Finding a team to follow
If you have started watching basketball and want a team, trim the wheel to the conference that plays in your time zone, so games are on at a sensible hour. The East has 15 teams and the West has 15; the table below shows which is which. Spin, watch that team for a few weeks, and see whether it sticks.
