What should I have for dessert?

Spin and see. The default wheel covers the main families of dessert: something chocolatey, something baked, something frozen, something with fruit and a few breakfast-style treats like waffles and pancakes. If the result is not right for tonight, that tells you what you are really in the mood for. If the real question is whether to have dessert at all, ask the yes or no wheel first.

A weekend baking wheel for kids

Baking is a favourite weekend activity with children, and choosing what to bake is often the first argument. Build a wheel of recipes you have the ingredients and the time for, such as cookies, cupcakes and flapjacks, and let the children take turns to spin. Keep the wheel to things that take under two hours, so the reward arrives before patience runs out.

Write the name as the child would say it, “Chocolate cookies” rather than a recipe title, and use a bright colour for each slice so younger ones can recognise their favourite.

Can I make the healthier options more likely?

Yes. Tick Use weights in Settings, then give fruit salad, frozen yogurt and strawberries a weight of 2 or 3. They take up more of the wheel and come up more often, while a sundae is still possible. The fruit wheel is a good companion if you want to spin which fruit goes in the bowl.

Dessert ideas for parties and dinner guests

For a party, the wheel can make dessert part of the entertainment. Put a small bowl of sweets or a fun-size treat under a covered plate for each slice, and let guests spin to find out which one they get. For a dinner party, spin earlier in the day between two or three puddings you are happy to make, so you can shop for just one.

Planning a whole meal? Start with the dinner wheel for the main course, then come back here for the sweet one.

Eating out? Spin for the dessert stop

Replace the slices with the dessert places near you, such as an ice cream parlour, a bakery or a café with good cake, and spin after dinner. It makes a nice end to a date; the date night ideas wheel even has a dessert crawl on it. For choosing the restaurant itself, use the restaurant picker.

Frequently asked questions

Can I add my own dessert recipes?

Yes. Type a dessert in the box and press Enter, or press Edit as text and paste a whole list, one per line. You can also delete any dessert you do not like with the cross beside it.

Can I add a “no dessert tonight” slice?

Of course. Add it like any other option. If you want it to come up often, tick Use weights and give it a bigger weight than the desserts, for example 3 against 1.

Is the dessert wheel good for kids’ parties?

Yes. Kids enjoy spinning for a treat, and you can go full screen on a TV so everyone watches. Replace the slices with the treats you actually have, so every spin has something ready.

Can I save a baking wheel and a dessert wheel?

The page keeps one version in your browser. To keep two, set up one, press Share or embed and bookmark the link, then set up the other. Each saved link reopens its own list.
