Zodiac sign wheel
Spin to land on one of the 12 western zodiac signs, each with its symbol, from ♈ Aries to ♓ Pisces. It is made for fun: party icebreakers, character prompts for stories, or guessing which sign a friend is. The date range for every sign is in the table below.

What dates go with each zodiac sign?
These are the usual western (tropical) date ranges printed in horoscope columns. The exact change-over day can shift by one either side from year to year, so people born on the first or last day of a range sometimes find they belong to the neighbouring sign.

|---|---|---|

| ♉ Taurus | 20 Apr – 20 May | Earth |
| ♊ Gemini | 21 May – 20 Jun | Air |
| ♋ Cancer | 21 Jun – 22 Jul | Water |
| ♌ Leo | 23 Jul – 22 Aug | Fire |
| ♍ Virgo | 23 Aug – 22 Sep | Earth |
| ♎ Libra | 23 Sep – 22 Oct | Air |
| ♏ Scorpio | 23 Oct – 21 Nov | Water |
| ♐ Sagittarius | 22 Nov – 21 Dec | Fire |
| ♑ Capricorn | 22 Dec – 19 Jan | Earth |
| ♒ Aquarius | 20 Jan – 18 Feb | Air |

Party games with a random star sign
Astrology is a conversation starter, not a science, and that is exactly why it works at a party. A few rounds that need nothing but this wheel:
- Guess the sign. Spin, then everyone guesses which friend in the room was born under that sign. The friend reveals the answer and explains why they are, or are definitely not, “such a Leo”.
- Horoscope improv. Spin a sign and have one player invent today’s horoscope for it on the spot, as dramatically as possible.
- Sign swap. Everyone spins a new sign for the evening and has to act out its supposed traits until dessert.
For more rounds that suit a mixed group, see the spin the wheel party games guide, or pair this wheel with the fortune wheel for a mock fortune-teller’s booth.
Using zodiac signs as writing and drawing prompts
Writers can spin a sign to give a character a starting personality, then deliberately break it: a shy Leo or a reckless Virgo is often more interesting than a textbook one. Artists can draw the sign’s animal or symbol in an unexpected setting; the drawing prompt wheel adds a second random twist if you want one.
Can I spin for just one element?
Yes. Open Edit as text and keep only the three fire signs, or the three water signs, and the wheel becomes a quick three-way pick. You can also turn on Remove the winner after each spin so that, in a group of twelve, everyone ends up with a different sign. Each of the 12 slices has the same one-in-twelve chance.
Why do the signs not match the constellations?
Western astrology fixes the signs to the seasons, starting at the March equinox, while the sky slowly shifts over centuries because Earth’s axis wobbles (precession). So the Sun on 21 March no longer sits in the constellation Aries. That is a fun fact for a science lesson, and a reminder to treat the wheel as entertainment.
About this list
The wheel uses the 12 signs of the western tropical zodiac with their standard Unicode symbols. It does not include Ophiuchus, which some people suggest as a thirteenth sign, or the 12 animals of the Chinese zodiac. Add either in one line if you want them.
Frequently asked questions
Is the zodiac sign wheel a real horoscope?
No. It is a random picker for fun. Each spin simply lands on one of 12 equal slices, and nothing about you or the date affects the result. Use it for games, prompts and conversation, not for decisions.
What are the dates for each zodiac sign?
The usual ranges run from Aries (21 March to 19 April) to Pisces (19 February to 20 March). The full table is on this page. Boundary days can move by one day in some years.
Why is Ophiuchus not on the wheel?
Western astrology has twelve signs, and Ophiuchus is a constellation some people propose as a thirteenth. It is not part of the traditional list, but you can type it into the box to add it as a slice.
Can I make a Chinese zodiac wheel instead?
Yes. Open Edit as text and replace the lines with the twelve animals: Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat, Monkey, Rooster, Dog and Pig. Save it with a share link.
Can everyone at a party get a different sign?
Turn on Remove the winner after each spin. Each person spins once and their sign drops off, so twelve people get twelve different signs. Reset to default brings them all back.
